Hellenic Bank supports the children at the "Makarios" Orphanage

• Sponsoring the Sophia Foundation for Children for the installation of solar water heaters

Hot water should not be a luxury and “Sophia Foundation for Children” takes action on this in Kenya’s villages for many years now having Hellenic Bank’s constant supports. This year Hellenic Bank also contributed to the installation of solar water heaters in the "Makarios" orphanage.

The solar water heaters will provide hot water to three buildings where the children of the orphanage live in. More specific, these buildings are a dormitory for boys, a dormitory for girls and the main building where the infants and young children with special needs live, together with the nurse and staff who look after the babies.

The project is already finished and in operation, bringing relief and real smiles to the children's faces, as this is the coldest time of the year in Kenya, with night temperatures dropping to as low as 12 degrees Celsius. In total, four new solar water heaters have been installed and two others have been fixed.

Hellenic Bank is especial proud of this contribution to a vital project for children in Kenya. The project was necessary not only for the health of vulnerable children, but also for the protection of the environment and sustainable development.

 The support of the program is part of the wider framework of the Bank's ESG Strategy (Environment, Society and Governance), as children are at the center of the Organization's Corporate Social Responsibility. In the same context, Hellenic Bank supports the fundraising events of the “Sophia Foundation for Children” by sponsoring cultural events, to reinforce projects carried out to improve the quality of life of children in Africa.
