During a modest ceremony, the Municipality of Lysis, honoured Mrs. Ioanna Panayiotou, current Executive Director of the University of Limassol (UoL) and former Commissioner for the Environment, for her continuous and selfless contribution to the environment and ecology of Cyprus.
The event was held at the Lysis Cultural Centre "Pavlos Liasidis" in Larnaca, on the occasion of Women's Day.
In her speech, Mrs Panayiotou said that "In this era of multiple crises that we are going through, it is clear that the group that is most affected - as the weakest link in society - is women. I believe that women can offer new dynamics to our country, by preserving and promoting our natural and cultural heritage, but also to guarantee economic recovery through green entrepreneurship, methodically and confidently".
Mrs Panayiotou thanked the Municipality of Lysis and in particular, the Mayor Mr. Andreas Kaouris, for the honour given to her and assured that she will continue to be present in eco-struggles and to fight for a greener Cyprus, which will truly respect and protect the environment and promote sustainable development.
