At a ceremony hosted today at Limassol, Melco Cyprus, operator of Cyprus Casinos (C2) and the upcoming integrated resort (IR) City of Dreams Mediterranean presented the installation of four new gates at the Acropolis of Ancient Kourion and the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates as part of the “Heritage Gates” project.

Culture and Heritage is one of the strategic pillars of Melco’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy in Cyprus. The “Heritage Gates” project is a collaboration between Melco Cyprus and the Department of Antiquities in Archaeological Heritage Management with the aim to actively promote the authenticity of the island’s most significant heritage sites. Through the unique initiative, Melco Cyprus has sponsored heritage enhancements to significantly improve the tourist experience, demonstrating the Company’s long-term and continuous commitment to support government efforts to sustainably preserve and promote local culture.

Property General Manager of City of Dreams Mediterranean and Cyprus Casinos, Mr Grant Johnson, stated, “Cyprus is a country with an incredibly rich and diverse cultural heritage, hence the preservation of its historical sites is of extraordinary importance. Respect for culture and heritage is one of Melco's core CSR pillars and we are glad to contribute in the promotion of local culture. I wish to extend my sincere thanks to the Department of Antiquities for the collaboration, and am confident that we will together create more memorable experiences for tourists in Cyprus.

“In addition to celebrating and preserving legacy, Melco is also committed to creating sustainable pathways to the future. I would like to reaffirm Melco’s strong commitment to Cyprus; to create a landmark integrated resort that will become a point of reference for premium hospitality and entertainment, enriching Cyprus’ tourism product and signalling multiple benefits for the country.”

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr Stavros Michael, said, “We are delighted to have found an important ally in Melco, a company which is committed to contributing to the social and cultural heritage of Cyprus. Cyprus has much more to offer than just the sun and sea. Our country is an open-air museum, providing travellers with the opportunity to visit an abundance of cultural sights, museums, monuments. Its traditions and present-day industries, its nature and diverse settings, comprise a destination that is appealing and attractive to different tastes and demands. By acknowledging these assets, we aim at enriching its tourism product through investing in our competitive advantages, developing our infrastructure, including transportation, and also promoting other forms of tourism, such as cultural and religious tourism. Melco is contributing towards this effort and we are extremely pleased to see the results of our collaboration to install four new gates, two at the Acropolis of Ancient Kourion and two at the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates. Through both its operations and CSR actions, Melco has engaged in activities that create tangible results for the local society and economy and has proven that it is a valuable partner to Cyprus. At the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, we aim at strengthening such partnerships, so as to take advantage of our island’s resources in the best possible way, the ultimate goal being sustainable growth and development, and as such we look forward to many more fruitful collaborations with Melco in the future.”
