Frederick University proudly announces its performance in the results of the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2021 which were announced today, 21 April 2021. The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess Universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), thus recognizing the Universities’ impact on society and the world at large. The rankings use calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons across four broad areas: research, teaching, outreach and stewardship.

This is the third edition of the rankings and includes 1240 Universities from 98 countries with broad participation by Universities in the USA, the UK, Russia, Japan, Australia and many European and Asian countries. The increase in the number of Universities participating in this year’s edition, by approximately 45% compared to last year, indicates the increasing importance of SDGs in the tertiary education sector.

Frederick University ranked among the top 401-600 Universities globally out of 1240 institutions that participated in the rankings. In specific areas, Frederick University ranked among the top 10% in the Quality Education category. In the Partnership for the Goals category, that assesses research activity, stakeholder relations and education for the SDGs, the University ranked among the top 25%.

Although this is the first time Frederick University participates in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings, its high performance in Quality Education and Partnership for the Goals - the relationships the University developed with governments, authorities and the society to support the SDGs - confirms the strategic goal of the University to become an agent of change in the society.

Its excellent score in the indicator ‘Education for the SDGs’ reflects the ongoing efforts of the University to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals in its programs of study so that they can prepare students to effectively deal with today’s challenges and become the change the world needs.

Although this is the first time we submitted an application in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings, we have achieved important distinctions in the Goals we have focused on, and in the overall ranking. Through this process, we have access to rich data on our performance in specific indicators and clear insight into best practice from around the world, which will feed our sustainability strategy, an integral part of the identity and the operation of Frederick University. This is a long-term project that is designed and implemented through innovative actions and initiatives, to achieve a sustainable future that will meet the needs of this generation but also the needs of the next generations” said the President of the Frederick University Council, Natassa Frederickou, adding that: We are especially pleased with the recognition of our innovative programs of study that respond to current needs and trends, by including the SDGs, such as our Architecture degree, our MSc Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education for Sustainable Development and our MSc in Sustainable Energy Systems”.

The Rector of Frederick University, Prof. George Demosthenous, said: “One of our main strategic goals is excellence in teaching and research and we have included specific actions towards this in our strategic planning. Our distinctions in this year’s Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings confirm these goals. I would like to thank and congratulate our entire academic community, staff and students, and especially those who worked systematically to achieve these results. We promise that we will aim even higher, with new goals, eagerness and zeal».
