Sales start on Jan 7

03/01/2011 12:18
Sale will officially start on January 7, although many shops already offer lower prices unofficially.

The decree will be announced by the Commerce Ministry tomorrow.

The sales start at the same time that the draft on the Sales Law has aroused strong feelings to the employers.

According to the draft law, the penal cases will be converted into cases of administrative nature so as to skip the time-consuming procedures before the courts, while the fine will reach up to €100 thousand or 5% of the turnover of the past year.

POVEK will hold a press conference tomorrow to analyze its view on the draft law. POVEK’s view is to determine certain periods for the sales, while it will propose the imposition of administrative fines.

Commerce Ministry Officer. Marios Drousiotis told StockWatch that the draft has been submitted to all (POVEK, CCCI, OEB, associations of clothing, footwear, furniture, house appliances and consumers’ associations) and they are expected to submit their views by January 31.

The Ministry is expected to evaluate the views and to submit the bill to the Parliament before its closing for the elections in May.
