Imports increase, exports fall

Imports of goods and services recorded an increase in June reflecting the gradual improvement of the climate in consumption. On the other hand, exports declined.

According to Cystat flash estimates, the value of imports in the sixth month of 2015 increased by 5% to €444.3 mn from €423 mn last year. In May imports were lower by 0.9%.

In the first half of the year, imports rose by 3.2% to €2471.3 mn from €2394.4 mn in the first half of 2014.

As for the exports, they fell by 14.2% in June to €125.7 mn compared to €146.6 mn in June 2014.

For the period January – June, exports increased by 25% to €976.8 mn from €781.4 mn in the corresponding period of 2014.

The trade deficit in January-June 2015 decreased to €1494.6 mn from €1613 mn in the corresponding period of 2014.
