According to the latest data published by Cystat, the main developments in Cyprus Foreign Trade in January 2002 as compared with January 2001 were:
a. Total imports (covering imports for home consumption and imports placed into bonded warehouses) totalled £190,3 million as compared with £183,2 million in January 2001. Total exports amounted £38,9 million compared to £46,2 million in January 2001. The trade deficit accounted for £151,4 million compared to £137,0 million.
b. Imports for home consumption were £170,9 million in January 2002 compared to £149,2 million in January 2001. Intermediate inputs imported for home consumption valued at £61,2 million or 35,8%, followed by consumer goods with £42,1 million or 24,6%, fuels and lubricants with £23,2 million or 13,6%, transport equipment with £20,7 million or 12,1% and capital goods with £19,8 million or 11,6%.
c. Domestic exports, including stores and provisions valued at £17,6 million as compared with £15,8 million in January 2001 and re-exports, including stores and provisions to £21,3 million compared to £30,4 million in January 2001. Industrial products of domestic produce exported in January 2002 accounted for £13,8 million or 80,8%. Exports of raw agricultural products in January 2002 valued at £3,1 million.
d. In January 2002 the EU countries supplied Cyprus with goods valued at £94,0 million or 49,4% and absorbed goods valued at £8,0 million or 46,7% of Cyprus domestic exports, excluding stores and provisions.
