November imports-exports soar

09/01/2006 14:23
The increase in total imports and exports continued in November 2005, proving that the EU accession contributed heavily to the expansion of activities outside Cyprus.

According to CYSTAT data released on Monday, total exports in November recorded an increase of 29% to £68.2 million against £52.7 million in the corresponding month of 2004. The total value of exports in January-November surged 24% to £619.1 million against £500.5 million in the corresponding period of 2004.

It is noted that the CYSTAT data are not entirely comparable, since the Service followed a different methodology before the island’s accession in the EU.

Imports at +12%

Similarly, total imports in November reached £286.6 million against £256.8 million in November 2004.

In January-November, total imports stood at £2,633.5 million against £2,415.4 million in the corresponding period of 2004.
