Total imports in February and March 2021 record a decrease

The total imports in Cyprus in February and March 2021 recorded a decrease, according to the Foreign Trade Statistics released Monday by the CyStat.

In particular, the total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) amounted to €738,4 mn in February 2021 as compared to €752,7 mn in February 2020, recording a decrease of 1,9%.

Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions, in February 2021 were €110,6 mn as compared to €90,3 mn in February 2020, recording an increase of 22,5%. Domestic exports of industrial products in February 2021 were €102,4 mn compared to €80,0 mn in February 2020, whilst domestic exports of agricultural products in February 2021 were €6,9 mn compared to €8,2 mn in February 2020.

Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions, in February 2021 were €67,0 mn as compared to €128,0 mn in February 2020, recording a decrease of 47,7%.

Total imports of goods in March were €584,4 mn as compared to €621,9 mn in March 2020, recording a decrease of 6,0%. Imports from other EU Member States in March 2021 were €403,0 mn and from third countries €181,4 mn, compared to €322,5 mn and €299,3 mn respectively in March 2020. Imports in March 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €25,8 mn as compared to €128,5 mn in March 2020.

Total exports of goods in March 2021 were €217,7 mn as compared to €295,7 mn in March 2020, recording a decrease of 26,4%. Exports to other EU Member States in March 2021 were €66,2 mn and to third countries €151,5 mn, compared to €65,0 mn and €230,8 mn respectively in March 2020. Exports in March 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €40,8 mn as compared to €154,5 mn in March 2020.

Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) in January – March 2021 amounted to €1.917,1 mn as compared to €2.074,9 mn in January – March 2020, recording a decrease of 7,6%. Total exports of goods (to EU Member States and to third countries) in January – March 2021 were €550,6 mn compared to €734,6 mn in January – March 2020, registering a decrease of 25,1%. The trade deficit was €1.366,5 mn in January – March 2021 compared to €1.340,3 mn in the corresponding period of 2020.
