Trade deficit drops by €182.3 million in January-September 2018

Cyprus’ trade deficit fell by €182.3 million in the first nine months of 2018, according to data released Monday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus. Trade deficit was €3,049.5 mn in January-September 2018 compared to €3,231.8 mn in the corresponding period of 2017.
 
Total imports, covering total imports from third countries and from EU member states, in January-September 2018 amounted to €6,586.8 mn as compared to €5,556.6 mn in January-September 2017. Total exports, covering total exports to third countries and to EU member states, in January-September 2018 were € 3,537.3mn compared to €2,324.8 mn in January-September 2017.

In September 2018 total imports were valued at €663.0 mn compared to €531.0 mn in September 2017.

Total exports, including stores and provisions, in September 2018 amounted to €263.4 mn as compared to €263  mn in September 2017.

Exports of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions in September 2018 were €154.4 mn compared to €90 mn in September 2017 whilst exports of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, in September 2018 were €109 mn as compared to €173  mn in September 2017.

Total domestic exports of industrial products in September 2018 were €148.1 mn compared to €82.6 mn in September 2017. Total domestic exports of agricultural products in September 2018 were €3.8 mn compared to €5.1 mn in September 2017.

Preliminary estimates for October

On the basis of preliminary estimates for the foreign trade of Cyprus in October 2018, total imports were €709.2 mn compared to €898.3 mn in October 2017. Imports from EU member states in October 2018 were €455.5 mn as compared to €435.7 mn in October 2017. Imports from third countries in October 2018 were €253.7 mn as compared to €462.6 mn in October 2017.

Total exports in October 2018 were €333.8 mn as compared to €181.8 mn in October 2017. Exports to EU member states in October 2018 were €179.2 mn as compared to €78.8 mn in October 2017. Exports to third countries in October 2018 were €154.6 mn as compared to €103 mn in October 2017.

Total imports in October 2018 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €72.5 mn. compared to €342.5 mn in October 2017. Total exports in October 2018 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), of a total value of €29.4 mn. compared to €23.6 mn in October 2017.
