Trade deficit at €2.81 billion

Trade deficit was slightly up, by €61 million in the first eight months of this year, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, on Tuesday, show.

On the basis of preliminary estimates for Cyprus` external trade and despite an increase in exports, the trade deficit in the period of January - September 2017 was recorded at €2.81 billion, compared to €2.75 billion at the same period of 2016.

Exports reached €2.01 billion up from €1.81 billion in the same period of last year, while import reached €4.83 billion from €4.56 billion last year.

On the basis of preliminary estimates, the trade deficit was in August 2017 €326.8 million, up from €275.8 in August 2016.

Total imports / arrivals were €574.3 million of which €350.5 million were arrivals from other EU member states and €223.7 million imports from third countries.

Total exports / dispatches were €247.5 million of which €125.1 million were dispatches to other EU member states and €122.4 million were exports to third countries.
