Trade deficit up €408 million in the first ten months of 2021

Τrade deficit rose by €408 million in January – October 2021 amounting to €4,235.8 mn compared to €3,827.3 mn in the corresponding period of 2020.

According to provisional data released Friday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) in January - October 2021 amounted to €6,812.9 mn as compared to €6,235.7 mn in January - October 2020, recording an increase of 9.3%. Total exports of goods (to EU Member States and to third countries) in January - October 2021 were €2,577.1 mn compared to €2,408.3 mn in January - October 2020, registering an increase of 7.0%.

Total imports of goods in October 2021 were €703.4 mn as compared to €827.4 mn in October 2020, recording a decrease of 15.0%. Imports from other EU Member States in October 2021 were €479.4 mn and from third countries €224.0 mn, compared to € 373.8 mn and €453.6 mn respectively in October 2020. Imports in October 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €63,1 mn as compared to €275,4 mn in October 2020.
 
Total exports of goods in October 2021 were €439.8 mn as compared to €272.6 mn in October 2020, recording an increase of 61.3%. Exports to other EU Member States in October 2021 were €72.1 mn and to third countries €367.7 mn, compared to €159.3 mn and €113.3 mn respectively in October 2020. Exports in October 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €259.1 mn as compared to €131.1 mn in October 2020.
 
According to the final data for September 2021 total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) amounted to €627.2 as compared to €584.2 mn in September 2020, recording an increase of 7.4%.
 
Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions, in September 2021 were €103.7 mn as compared to €110.5 mn in September 2020, recording a decrease of 6.2%. Domestic exports of industrial products in September 2021 were €98.4 mn compared to €104.4 mn in September 2020, whilst domestic exports of agricultural products were €4.0 mn both in September 2021 and in September 2020.
 
Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions, in September 2021 were €80.6 mn as compared to €66.0 mn in September 2020, recording an increase of 22.1%.
