Trade deficit at €5.1 billion for January-August 2022

The trade deficit was €5,129.3 mn in January - August 2022 compared to €3,638.7 mn in the corresponding period of 2021, according to the monthly electronic publication “Intra & Extra EU Trade Statistics (by commodity and country)” for January - August 2022, published by the Cyprus Statistical Service on Monday.

According to the report, total imports of goods from EU Member States and from third countries in January - August 2022 amounted to €7,651 mn as compared to €5,623.9 mn in January - August 2021, recording an increase of 36%.

Total exports of goods to EU Member States and to third countries in January - August 2022 were €2,521.7 mn compared to €1,985.2 mn in the same period of 2021, registering an increase of 27%.

The European Union was the main source of supply of goods to Cyprus with a share of €4,564 mn of total imports, while imports from all other European countries totaled €715.1 mn in January - August 2022. Imports from the rest of the world amounted to €2,371.9 mn.

Exports to the European Union accounted for €726.5 mn, while exports to all other European countries for €273 mn in January - August 2022. Exports to the rest of the world amounted to €1,522.2 mn.
