Chevron and Noble Energy reaffirmed on Monday the importance that they attribute to the development of Aphrodite natural gas field, which is located in exploratory Block 12 of the Cypriot Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), in the framework of their strategic energy plans in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Cyprus Government Spokesman Kyriakos Koushos said in a written statement that Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades had in the afternoon a teleconference with Michael Wirth, the CEO of Chevron, that acquired through the acquisition of Noble Energy - expected to be fulfilled in October its - share in Aphrodite gas field. Noble Energy CEO David Stover and officials of the two companies also attended the teleconference.
According to Koushos, the companies reaffirmed during the teleconference the importance that they attribute to the development of Aphrodite gas field, in the framework of their energy plans in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Moreover, they assured of their intention to proceed the soonest possible with their plans on how to exploit the gas field despite the relevant delay due to the coronavirus pandemic. They also expressed their desire to visit Cyprus as soon as conditions allow this to happen, the Spokesman said.
According to Koushos, President Anastasiades expressed his satisfaction for the statements of the two companies’ officials and assured of the government’s readiness to cooperate with the companies and offer every possible help with a view to achieve the common goals.
Cyprus Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Natasa Pilides and the Government Spokesman also participated in the teleconference.
