The chairman of the Competition Protection Committee will meet the solicitors of BP Cyprus Ltd shortly to discuss the acquisition agreement of 70 petrol stations and other related operations in Cyprus by the company "Hellenic Petroleum", whose major shareholder is the Greek state.

Mr Tsieleppos told SW that the specific agreement is 'act of centralization' protected by the legislation. The Committee - after the announcement of the agreement terms - will examine as to what extent the competition regulations are affected by it.

The acquisition agreement will be valid as soon as the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Nikos Rolandes (informed by the BP Manager of Europe Michelle de Fabiani) and the Competition Protection Committee are in accordance with the agreement terms.

The agreement between BP and ELPE was signed on Tuesday night at BP's central offices in London and confirmed yesterday in Nicosia.
