CY organizes Energy Charter Conference

Cyprus will organize the 24th Energy Charter Conference, on December 5-6, in Nicosia.

The Conference is organized by the Cyprus Ministry of Energy and the Secretariat of the Charter and is titled “15 years (1998-2013) of promotion and protection of investments in energy under the Treaty for the Energy Charter”.

According to an official announcement, the conference is considered an event of paramount importance for Cyprus and an important opportunity fro Nicosia to strengthen its energy relations.

The Energy Charter is an intergovernmental organization, founded in 1994, aiming to promote energy cooperation among the countries of Eurasia.

During the first day of the Ministerial Meeting in Nicosia, on December 5, participants will take stock of the Treaty’s implementation in the past 15 years.

The second day will open with the addresses of Cyprus Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkortypis, the Charter’s Vice President Jambulat Sarsenov, Kazakhstan’s Petroleum Minister Uzakbay Karabalin, the President of the Council of the EU and Lithuania’s Energy Minister Jaroslav Neverovic, among others.

The conference will be addressed by Ministers from Jordan, Montenegro, Georgia, Indonesia, as well as EU officials and academicians.

The conference will be attended by around 120 participants, including Ministers, Deputy Ministers and high ranking officials from the Charter’s 52 member states, as well as countries with observer status and non-members.
