Cyprus-Syria Cooperation on Oil Exploitation

Minister of Trade, Industry & Tourism Nicos Rolandis met yesterday with the Syrian Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources Dr. Mohamad Maher Jamal and held talks with a view to the formation of an agreement concerning the determination of the shelf and economic zone in the sea between the two countries for exploitation of oil reserves present. The distance between the two countries is 54 nautical miles.

The two ministers also discussed matters concerning the supply of natural gas and oil from Syria to Cyprus through undersea pipes.

The talks affirmed the excellent relations between the two countries which is an aspect Mr. Rolandis highlighted as being the same with Cyprus' other neighbouring countries with whom talks have been held for the determination of the boundaries of the economic zone of each country within the sea.
