Draft law for tenders on EEZ plots

19/10/2011 13:52
DISY is elaborating a draft law to be submitted to the Parliament tomorrow for the licensing of the plots in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus.

According to its Vice President, Averof Neophytou, the draft law will force the government – in case of an exploitation of the plots in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus – to follow the procedures adopted in the public sector for the invitation of tenders.

Mr. Neophytou clarified that the proposal will provide for the getting round of the procedure in case of national interest or national security.

“This will be followed when the government informs and convinces the Parliament. “It is a paradox and raises many questions to invite tenders for the purchase of supplies of thousands of euros and not to follow the same procedure when it is about millions of euros”, he noted.

Mr. Neophytou answered to AKEL’s criticisms, which via its spokesman, Giorgos Loukaides talked about “other incentives in relation to Mr. Neophytou’s statements on the natural gas”. Mr. Neophytou wondered what are the incentives hiding behind the criticisms against the President of the Republic in an issue concerning not only this generation but the next as well and reminded that similar hints had been expressed in December 2010, with the contract with Shell on the natural gas supply, which was three and four times more expensive than the Cypriot natural gas will cost”.
