Fuel sales continue downward trajectory

Fuel sales in Cyprus continued their downward path in January 2021 affected by restrictions aiming to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to data released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat), in January 2021, the total sales of petroleum products amounted to 89,362 tonnes, recording a decrease of 31,8% compared to January 2020.

Decreases were observed in the sales of motor gasoline by 34.0%, gasoil low Sulphur by 13.7% and in the provisions of aviation kerosene by 81.2%. As far as the sales from filling stations are specifically concerned, these have registered a decline of 25.8% to 45,030 tonnes.

Compared with the previous month (December 2020), total sales of petroleum products in January 2021 compared to December 2020 recorded a drop of 14.6%. A decrease was recorded in the sales of motor gasoline, gasoil low sulphur, asphalt, liquefied petroleum gases, as well as in the provisions of aviation kerosene. On the contrary, an increase was observed in the sales of heavy and light fuel oil, kerosene, gasoil and in the provisions of gasoil for marine use.
