Sales of petroleum products decrease in first five months of 2021

Sales of petroleum products decreased by 8.6% during the period January – May 2021 compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, according to data released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus. However, in May 2021, the total sales of petroleum products amounted to 90,195 tonnes, recording a rise of 1.2% compared to May 2020.

An increase was observed in the provisions of aviation kerosene (407.1%), as well as in the sales of motor gasoline (27.4%), road diesel (3.8%), liquefied petroleum gases (8.9%) and asphalt (5.6%). On the contrary, a decrease was recorded in the provisions of marine gasoil (-34.6%), as well as in the sales of kerosene (-78.2%), heating gasoil (-54.0%), heavy (-20.2%) and light (-14.8%) fuel oil.  As far as the sales from filling stations are specifically concerned, these have registered a rise of 3.7% to 48,143 tonnes.

The total sales of petroleum products in May 2021 compared to April 2021 recorded a decrease of 6.1%. Indicatively, the sales of motor gasoline fell by 3.2% and of road diesel by 8.4%, while the provisions of aviation kerosene rose by 90.1%.

The total stocks of petroleum products at the end of May 2021 recorded a rise of 12.9% compared to the end of the previous month.
