Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides said on Sunday that specific timelines and a roadmap regarding the government's energy policy will be released soon.

According to a Presidency’s press release, replying to questions from journalists after a memorial service in the village of Lympia, Nicosia, the President stressed that the government has a clear and specific direction and strategy for energy matters.

He highlighted the objective of creating synergies aimed at addressing Cyprus' domestic energy demands, while leveraging the European Union's efforts towards achieving independence from Russian natural gas.

Furthermore, he emphasised that he had a recent meeting with Chevron officials, and on Monday, a dedicated workshop will be held where the government will expound on its positions and approaches.

"Our goal is to establish synergies based on two fundamental factors. The first one concerns Cyprus' domestic market, aiming to address the issue arising from the high cost of electricity. The second factor is to capitalize on the current juncture at the European level, within the framework of the European Union's efforts towards reducing dependency on Russian natural gas," he noted.

"Therefore, we are moving in these two directions, having a clear and specific orientation, as well as a strategic approach," President Christodoulides added.

He further highlighted that discussions took place both in Egypt and Israel, and specific timelines along with a roadmap will be disclosed very soon, "regarding how we reach the goal I mentioned earlier, for the domestic market and utilization for the EU."
