2-hour strike in CAIR

01/11/2010 08:35
The employees in Cyprus Airways, members of SIKIKA-SEK, went on a 2-hour strike at 6.00 am this morning to protest against the transfer of Eurocypria’s activities to the Company. In his statements to StockWatch, CAIR spokesman, Kyriakos Kyriakou said that all trade unions participated in the strike. “The trade unions protest against the transfer of the financial obligations of Eurocypria to CAIR, on fear that they will make the future of the national carrier uncertain”, he said.

According to Mr. Kyriakou, the strike will affect three flights to Athens (CY322), Jeddah (CY1606) and Sofia (CY406), which will be subject to a few-minute delay.

Members of SINIKA will march to the Parliament today and they will deliver a special memo to the House President.

According to Mr. Kyriakou, “anything that disturbs the labour peace and the stability doesn’t help. We understand the reasons that the trade unions evoke in order to find solutions towards the right direction and to safeguard the future of CAIR”.

It is worth noting that the government decided to proceed with a liquidation of Eurocypria from mid November and to consolidate the activities of the two loss-making national air carriers.
