Eurocypria files legal action against CAIR

The liquidator of Eurocypria, Chris Jacovides, filed a legal action against Cyprus Airways today before the Larnaca District Court.

The legal action concerns the issue of a prohibitive decree for the cancellation of the itineraries to Moscow and St. Petersburg executed by Eurocypria and which have been undertaken by Cyprus Airways.

Almost a hundred Eurocypria employees gathered outside the Larnaca Court today to “support the liquidator”, while the hearing has been scheduled for March 21.

Renos Michaelides, former flight attendant and representative of the Eurocypria employees, stated that what the liquidator is asking for is the flight rights that belonged to Eurocypria to be exploited by the company since “the government allocated the flight rights to the Company without its permission”.

Responding to the relevant question, Mr. Michaelides said that as long as the company’s funds are restricted, the creditors are not secured. “What the liquidator will do is to sell the flight right of Eurocypria to Moscow and St. Petersburg to other company”, he said.

“We, as former staff members and as creditors, believe that we should back this procedure. The hearing of the case has been scheduled for March 21 and we hope, as the Court pledged, that the decision will be taken early”, he said.

Besides, Eurocypria former pilot, Charalambos Demetriades said that the Company’s employees have not been paid and have not received any compensation yet. “The state was obliged to give the VAT and other sums to Eurocypria so that the latter pays its employees”, he noted.

“Instead, it took its assets and assigned them to Cyprus Airways arbitrarily and illegally”, he concluded.
