In an effort to overcome the differences that they have with regard to the national carrier, the Cyprus Airways Management will have a meeting with the pilots’ trade union, PASYPI, on Tuesday afternoon at 5.30.

According to a StockWatch report released yesterday, the Finance and Transport Ministers, Michalis Sarris and Haris Thrasou, who comprise the committee that deals with the case, had a meeting with the Cyprus Airways Board of Directors on Monday and were briefed by CAIR Chairman, Lazaros Savvides, on the company’s restructuring plan and the talks with PASYPI.

Mr. Savvides had talks with the Finance and Transport Ministers first, and then he visited the Labour Ministry to meet the Labour Minister, Christos Taliadoros.

The committee clarified that the government insists in the enforcement of the restructuring plan, which has already been submitted to the European Union, and will not accept changes in the salary cuts.

“We are ready to discuss the pilots’ demands and proposals that might create prospects for further savings and requirements that will secure a future improvement in the salaries, given that the company will enter the restructuring phase”, the Ministers had told StockWatch on Monday.

Savvides: I know how to move on

“During the meeting with the Ministers, we exchanged views and ideas for today’s meeting with PASYPI. I clarified the points that I will state my recommendations and I know how I will move on”, Mr. Savvides said.

Mr. Savvides also said that he will try to have a meeting with the Commerce Minister this morning.

“What we are not going to negotiate is the salary cuts. All other issues will be examined”, Mr. Savvides concluded.
