The Cyprus government accepted on Thursday the resignation of Mr. Achilleas Kyprianou from the Board of Directors of Cyprus Airways, the third Board member that proceeds to this act in the past ten days.

Vice Chairman, Achilleas Kyprianou, submitted officially his resignation, which had been announced to the public on March 2. In his resignation letter, Mr. Kyprianou expressed his grief on “the prevailing negative condition in Cyprus Airways, despite the efforts made by a number of Board members”. “Unfortunately, the facts and the destructive course of the national carrier affirmed what I was saying all those years. The survival of Cyprus Airways must be a top priority for the government. Cyprus must keep its national carrier”, he said.

According to the letter, Mr. Kyrianou had not interfered in the dismissal of the 22 flight attendants few days ago, since had not attended the specific Board meeting. “The submission of my resignation will facilitate the government to take any decisions on the Board of Directors”, he noted.

The Council of Ministers is currently reviewing the latest developments. It is noted that Chairman, Constantinos Loizides and Board member, A. Papaellinas have also submitted their resignations.
