CAIR urges pilots to accept proposals

03/11/2004 11:06
At the meeting held at the Labour Ministry on Tuesday on the dismissal of the 14 pilots as redundant staff, the representatives of the Cyprus Airways Board of Directors urged the pilots to accept their proposals, which will add £3.3 million to the Company.

According to StockWatch sources, these proposals provide for:

-The cut of the basic rate by 5%
- The reduction of the number of benefits by 50%
- The suspension of the annual pay rises
- The withdrawal of the pay rises agreed for the renewal of the union contracts
- The increase in the working hours from 12 to 14.5
- The abolition of overtime
- The abolition of the tip granted to pilots since 1985
- The adoption of a new flight system which will allow return flights to and from Larnaca-London.

Invited to comment on the proposals of the Board of Directors, PASYPI Chairman, Efthimios Liasis told StockWatch that the trade union is reviewing the requests and will prepare its own counter-proposals shortly. Mr. Liasis said that PASYPI members might end up with compromises.

“We are aware of the Company’s problems. We are ready for more compromises but certain demands are extreme and are not in line with the climate that should prevail between the two sides for the survival of the national carrier”, Mr. Liasis said.
