20/12/2007 15:32
The conclusion of the report prepared by the three-member Committee on the detachment of employees is a combination of agreements among ETYK, the banks and the Community Acquis. Labour Minister, Antonis Vasileiou submitted the report on the labour dispute between ETYK and National Bank to all parties on Thursday.

The Council of Ministers’ was informed about the content of the report on Wednesday.

In his statements to the journalists, Mr. Vasileiou said that the report will help both sides to reach an agreement in order to solve the labour dispute.

Invited to give further details on its content, the Minister said that it would be risky to analyze the findings of a case that was under examination for months and might be interpreted differently by the parties. “I urge the two parties to take advantage of the report and solve the dispute via negotiations”, he noted.

On the question whether there are winners and losers, Mr. Vasileiou said that he cannot say so since it does not fall under his competencies.

On the other hand, National Bank legal advisor, Chris Georgiades stated that the report will be examined by the bank, while ETYK Chairman, Loizos Hadjicostis, expressed his certainty that the report confirms the existence of agreements and practices, as well as that the relevant directive does not avert those agreements. “If it is adopted in good faith by all, the report will give the solutions and our side will not be discontent but justified”, he concluded.
