Chartered flights state airline, Eurocypria, is expected to close on November 13, General Secretary of SEK Private Employees, Elisseos Michael stated on Friday. After the end of the meeting between the Finance Ministers and Eurocypria representatives, Mr. Michael said that they were ensured by the Minister that the staff will not remain exposed on November 13, when the airline will cease to have a turnover.

According to Mr. Michael, the Minister ensured that the staff will be transferred to Cyprus Airways and will receive all benefits that Eurocypria currently offers and stem from the union contracts and the employment.

With reference to the date of its closure, Mr. Michael noted that it has been determined, although this might change if it is deemed necessary.

According to sources, the summer flight schedule of Eurocypria will be finalized on November 13.

Invited to comment on the statements of the Cyprus Airways trade unionists, Mr. Michael stressed that they were ensured by the Minister that no employee will be dismissed, while the new group will decide on the activities and will find the redundant staff.

“Besides, via the encouraging incentive plan the employees are to decide whether they will withdraw or will stay in the new group”, he said.

Eurocypria was sold by Cyprus Airways against €23 million in 2006 and it is suffering losses since then.

In February 2010, it received a state aid of €35 million by the tax payers in order to pay off its loans with Piraeus Bank and Marfin.
