Govt. – CAIR trade unions remove obstacles

16/12/2005 15:28
The government decided on Friday to allocate 3% of the Provident Fund to the staff that will withdraw or will remain in Cyprus Airways, within the framework of improvement of the national carrier’s compensation plan.

In his statements after the meeting with SEK and PEO, Commerce Minister, Giorgos Lillikas said that this attempt improves the compensation plan and satisfies the trade unions’ main demand for the acceptance of the plan. Mr. Lillikas noted that deliberations will continue until Monday, when both parties hope to reach a final agreement. The Minister avoided specifying the economic cost for the company after the latest development.

Similarly, Transport Minister, Haris Thrasou said that the two sides must reach an agreement and expressed his optimism that the allocation of 3% of the Provident Fund will lead to a solution.

Meanwhile, the Cyprus Airways Management will have contracts with the remaining Cyprus Airways trade unions.
