Appointment by CAIR is a mistake

10/11/2010 12:50
The Employers’ and Industrialists’ Federation (OEB) announced today that the proposal for the employment of the Eurocypria employees in Cyprus Airways is totally wrong and uneconomical.

“It must be understood that things in Cyprus Airways are not good and their possible appointment will lead the national carrier to a collapse”, the announcement said.

According to OEB, Cyprus Airways needs structural measures to recover from the losses of €26 million in the first half of the year.

“There is no room for spasmodic actions and emotional decisions on economic issues. We urge the government in cooperation with the trade unions to prepare a plan for the economic recovery of the company immediately, otherwise it will end up with a bankruptcy as Eurocypria”, the announcement added.

According to OEB, the Finance Minister’s abuse and the behaviours on behalf of part of the staff during the protestations are not justified.

“At the same time, however, we need to emphasize that if our proposals to the state and the trade unions were heard, Eurocypria would not have gone bankrupt and the jobs of more than 300 people would not have been lost”, the announcement concluded.
