The discount or free tickets as well as the weight transfer is an international practice, Cyprus Airways said in their announcement after press reports today.
“This international practice is supported for decades by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and has been adopted by all airlines-members.
“According to the practice, beneficiaries of an airline member of IATA may turn to our company or vice versa - our beneficiaries to turn to another company-IATA member - to be granted free or discounted tickets or other facilities”, it is noted.
“Although this practice is followed for decades by all airlines, all issues related to cost and competitiveness of the company, including the above practice, are on the table and under the "microscope” of Board of Directors of Cyprus Airways as well as the experts of Air France - KLM Consulting which, are examining thoroughly the company, in view of the preparation of the Restructuring Plan”, the announcement concluded.
