New govt. against privatization

18/04/2003 15:48
The new Cyprus government has decided to depart from the policy of the previous government to privatize semi-state organizations. The Minister of Transport stated that he will not proceed to the privatization of CYTA, while the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Giorgos Lillikas, does not intend to change the operation of EAC, which is under the Ministry’s supervision.

As far as tourism in concerned, Mr. Lillikas said that the Ministry works hard to regain the lost ground following the drop of tourist arrivals in March and has, therefore, introduced an official group that will concentrate all the relevant data on a weekly basis.

Mr. Lillikas revealed that the tour operators have submitted a number of proposals for measures on tourism, which are, however, already enforced by the Cyprus government.
