Cyprus lifts night curfew after nearly 15 months

10/06/2021 09:43

A night curfew, which has been in place in Cyprus since the end of March 2020 as part of the effort to contain the COVID-19 pandemic has ended on Thursday.

In a press release yesterday, the Ministry of Health said night curfew is lifted as from June 10, as well as the use of Form A that was necessary for the movement of employees.

Lunch or dinner for social events (e.g. weddings, christenings, graduations etc.) in restaurants or hotel units or other event halls is permitted, based on the health protocol for social events. Specifically, 250 people will be allowed indoors for lunch / dinner, or 350 people outdoors for lunch / dinner and 250 people for a reception / cocktail party outdoors. Those attending the events must hold a SafePass.

For social events, such as lunches/dinners for weddings or christenings in homes, a proof is needed (e.g. invitation) as well as the available square meters of the house, in order to determine the maximum number of attendees based on the relevant protocol. The information should be sent electronically to [email protected] for approval. A prerequisite for those attending the event is the presentation of a SafePass.

In addition, nightclubs, reception halls, entertainment centres and music and dance venues will reopen, based on the relevant protocol. For indoors it is necessary to present a SafePass.

The limit set on the physical presence of employees in private sector companies, as well as in the public sector is also abolished.

According to the protocol for nightclubs guests must have a negative PCR or antigen rapid test done within 72 hours, or a vaccination certificate for COVID-19  with at least the first dose (provided that three weeks have passed since the date of vaccination), or evidence that a person had been infected with COVID-19  and no more than six months have passed since the date of their initial positive test.

It is recommended to reduce as much as possible cash transactions and instead promote the contactless transactions.

It is recalled that since the 1st of  June, a maximum number of 20 persons, including permanent residents and minors, is allowed in households. In addition, people can go to indoor places, such as religious places of worship, casinos, conference venues and commercial fairs, exhibitions, theatres, amphitheatres and other performing arts venues. Their number is set at 50% of the capacity of each venue.
