CAIR – PASYPI dispute

21/10/2004 14:22
The relations between the Cyprus Airways Board of Directors and the pilots’ trade union PASYPI have deteriorated recently.

In a letter sent to the Conciliatory Service of the Labour Ministry, PASYPI accuses the CAIR Board of Directors “for violating the industrial relations code and the union contract”.

“The pilots of Cyprus Airways will stand by their colleagues, who have been (or will be) laid off as redundant staff. The Board of Directors has deceived the pilots. It is not what we had agreed”, PASYPI Chairman, Efthimios Liasis told StockWatch.

On the question whether the letter sent to the Labour Ministry Conciliatory Service refers to the pilots’ intention to take decisive measures, Mr. Liasis said that the trade union will evaluate the results of the conciliatory efforts and will decide on its further acts accordingly”.

Invited to comment on PASYPI’s letter, CAIR Chairman, Constantinos Loizides said that the Company’s decision to cut a number of flights entails the dismissal of the redundant staff. “Despite the fact that the Company had taken this decision, it finally revised its plans and decided to give a three-year unpaid leave and a priority in case of re-employment. The Company also decided to grant two monthly wages as compensation”, Mr. Loizides concluded.
