CAIR pilots reject reorganization plan

01/11/2005 16:05
The pilots’ trade union, PASYPI, decided on Tuesday to reject unanimously the Cyprus Airways reorganization plan proposed by the Company’s Board of Directors and warned that it will take dynamic measures – even the fleet grounding – if the national carrier decides to adopt the plan.

“The pilots will not enter into new talks with Cyprus Airways in relation to the reorganization plan. The plan does not exist for us and we cannot have talks for something that does not exist”, PASYPI Chairman, Poly Economou stated after the Extraordinary General Meeting.

Mr. Economou also expressed the employees’ disappointment for the Management’s stance and urged the Company to respect the existing union contract, which was the “result of free collective negotiations”.

The pilots also appealed to the Parliament and government that they should seriously take into account the responsibilities they have against the national carrier. “They all committed to save Cyprus Airways and promised that no other staff members will be victimized”, Mr. Economou concluded.
