Changes in CAIR and Eurocypria

05/01/2007 12:20
The Ministry of Transport is currently in contact with several individuals – including the former Laiki Bank Chairman, Kikis Lazarides – in view of the changes in the Boards of Directors of Cyprus Airways and Eurocypria. In his statements to Cyprus News Agency, Cyprus Airways Chairman and Interior Ministry General Manager, Lazaros Savvides said that the government is considering restructuring the two Boards.

On the question whether the government has already decided on the Board members, Mr. Savvides said that he is not aware of the issue but he will be informed by the Cyprus President, Tassos Papadopoulos on time.

“There is a strong need for changes in the Boards of CAIR and Eurocypria after the latter’s independence. We have contacts with certain persons, including Mr. Lazarides, who expressed his views for CAIR. This does not mean that we put pressure on him or he expressed a wish to become a Chairman”, Transport Minister, Haris Thrasou told StockWatch.

“The government, as shareholder of Eurocypria and major shareholder of Cyprus Airways, must improve the operation of the two companies and decide accordingly so that the European Union is certain that the two companies work together”, Mr. Savvides concluded.
