Company registrations decline

The number of applications for new company registrations in Cyprus dropped by 2% to 1,008 in April 2017 compared with 1,029 in April last year, according to data released by the Department of the Registrar of Companies and Official Receiver.

In March new company registrations amounted to 1,315.

For the period January to April, new company registrations increased by 1.6% year on year, reaching 4,347 applications compared with 4,278 in the first months of 2016.

Furthermore applications for name approval in April amounted to 1,988 compared with 2,080 in April 2016, marking a decrease of 4.4%.

Total registered companies on April 30 2017 reached 211,978 compared with 210,925 at the end of March 2017.

New registrations in the first four months of 2017 reached 4,155, whereas additional registrations for business names and partnerships reached 721.

Applications for new additional registrations relating to overseas companies in the first three months amounted to 28 compared with 62 in the respective period of 2016.
