Eurocypia must support CY

Commerce Minister, Antonis Paschalides sent a strict message to Eurocypria on Friday. Just one month after the approval of the bill for the economic support of the airline with capital of €35 million, the Minister urged the company to support the island’s tourist product.

“A company subsidized by the Cypriot tax payers must back the Cypriot tourism and the Cypriot economy”, Mr. Paschalides stated, commenting on the company’s decision to reduce its flight schedule to Cyprus. According to reports, this decision jeopardizes the transfer of 20 thousand tourists to the island.

“It is an oxymoron to create tourism on the one hand and the airlines not to reciprocate on the other. Why Eurocypria not to dispose all 6 aircrafts in summer to transfer tourists to Cyprus? Cyprus must have the first ‘say’”, he reiterated.

“After Easter, I will undertake the initiative to bring all airlines that are active in some way in Cyprus to deliberations. Those include the British Monarch and other foreign companies that will be announced soon so as to take action in order to increase the transfer of tourists from the markets that the Ministry aims to on the basis of its strategic plans”, the Minister concluded.
