Louis: The fine of €1.2m is unfair

21/06/2007 11:25
Louis announced on Thursday that the fine of €1.2 million imposed by the Greek Merchant Marine for the pollution after the sinking of Sea Diamond is unfair. The Company said that the owner company of cruise ship Sea Diamond will proceed to all necessary actions to cancel the decision.

A Louis representation accompanied by representatives of the insurance association of the ship and specialized technical consultants visited the Merchant Marine Minister and informed him on the actions that are taking place and those that will follow.

During the meeting last Friday, the Company clarified that although it could have restricted its expenditure to €4.3 million to deal with the issue (including possible compensations) based on the Greek and international legislation, it decided not to evoke the relevant provisions of the legislation on the protection of the sea environment and to take all necessary measures with a cost that has already exceeded the sum of €4.3 million.

The Company also decided to introduce capital of €4.3 to the Court of Piraeus and urges all those who have been affected by the damage to submit an application for compensation, pursuant to the relevant law.
