The prospect of increasing tourist spending in Cyprus by €266 million as a result of Ryanair’s presence in the island was presented by Head of Sales and Marketing department of the airline, Melissa Corrigan, during the 24th Annual General Meeting of PASYXE that opened its gates in Nicosia today.

Mrs. Corrigan referred to the prospects that Ryanair’s presence creates in several areas, such as Malta, where it contributed to the opening of 1000 new job posts and carries more than one million passengers.

“There are a lot we can do for Cyprus. Through the promotion of the destination, Cyprus may become an attractive destination throughout the year, as the Canary Islands are”, she said.

Representative of Russian tourist company Pegas Touristik Irina Sadovava referred to the first year during which Cyprus was included in its program as destination.

The number of Russian tourists to Cyprus via the company in 2011 reached 20,000, while this year this number will increase to 30,000 with the launch of chartered flights from April.

Earlier, during his own intervention, Mr. Markus Luthe outnumbered the positive results from the inclusion of the Cypriot hotels in Hotelstars Union, a common European system of classification of the quality of hotels in eleven countries.
