Press: 1 in 4 loans in restructuring

The major issue in today’s financial press is the visit of the US Vice President, Jo Biden in Cyprus. In his meetings with the President of the Republic and then with Mr. Eroglu at the occupied areas, they discussed the Cyprus issue. Mr. Biden announced the intensification of the procedure of contacts and the efforts to reconstruct confidence.

Other issues concern two significant announcements on Bank of Cyprus and the reduction of electricity prices announced by EAC.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to the quality of the portfolio of Bank of Cyprus for 2013. According to the report, one in four loans in Bank of Cyprus were restructured in 2013, while the problem with the arrears of over 90 days, which is the non-performing loans, increases.

Elsewhere the newspaper reports that the access of people of over 21 years old to the casinos will be without income or other criteria.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Politis” refers to the measures for the improvement of liquidity and capital enhancement of Bank of Cyprus. According to the report, the dependence of the consolidated Bank of Cyprus – Laiki Bank in the euro system in the past year is lower by €1 billion. According to CB data, the financing of ELA fell to €9.4 billion.

“Politis” also highlights that the budget of Greece in January – April shows primary surplus of €1.33 billion.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Simerini” refers to the two significant announcements on Bank of Cyprus yesterday. Specifically, the CB announced that the dependence of BOC by ELA fell in April to €100 million. Yesterday BOCY announced that it sold to Piraeus Bank its loans to the Serbian property management company Robne Kuce Beograd for €165 million, noting that the revenues from the sale enhance the liquidity of the bank.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Haravgi” reports that the Central Bank instead of answering the questions raised by the newspaper on the reappointment of the secretary of Athanasios Orphanides, it preferred leaks of other irrelevant issues.

“Haravgi” also reports that the Paphos District Court issued an arrest warrant against Andreas Vgenopoulos and Efthimios Bouloutas because they were not present at a trial on a criminal proceeding against them.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Alithia” refers to the lower electricity prices announced by EAC. In his statements to the CNA, EAC spokesman, Costas Gavrielides said that this is linked to the drop in the price of fuel and the reoperation of the Vassiliko station.

Elsewhere the newspaper reports that POVEK protested yesterday for the liberalization of the shops, which were “dressed” in black.
