Press: 3000 loan restructurings

The major issues in today’s financial press are the House Institutions Committee’s session yesterday, which discussed the restructuring of loans, the meeting of the Board of Directors of Hellenic Bank and the talks on the bill for the property tax.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to yesterday’s House Finance Committee’s session on the restructuring of loans. As noted, CB Governor, Chrystalla Georghadji, said that the banks have proceeded to €3 thousand loan restructurings with the exception of Bank of Cyprus, which has not yet submitted data. The MPs requested by the bank’s spokesman to submit the revaluations of properties of 25 large lenders, who owe €6 billion.

Elsewhere the newspaper reports that the Securities and Exchange Commission expects investments of millions through alternative investments.

The newspaper “Politis” refers to the talks on the bill for the property tax. According to the report, all sides, even the government, agree that the government bill should not be approved as it is, because it will hit the small-medium landowners and will cause social disruption.

The “Economy” inset of the newspaper refers to the meeting of the Board of Directors of Hellenic Bank. As noted, Irena Georgiadou is officially the new Chairwoman of the bank. The position of Vice-Chairman is still vacant and it will be filled in at the next meeting. The Board members were informed on the bank’s issues, the stress tests and the evaluation of the quality of assets, which will determine the size of the decisions for the capital structure of the bank.
