Press: Christofias against all

The major issues in today’s financial press are the statements of the President of the Republic, the negotiations of the Greek government with individuals for the “haircut” terms and the issue of 30-day treasury bills by the Finance Ministry.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to the President’s statements yesterday. According to the report, Mr. Christofias urged the party leaders and the Parliament to reconsider the approval of the budgets and the war for the cut of certain benefits. He also stressed that the disastrous opposition and policy by all must be terminated.

Elsewhere the newspaper reports that total car registrations in the first eleven months of the year dropped 17.5%.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Politis” refers to the negotiations of the Greek government with the individuals for the “haircut” terms. According to FT, an investment fund withdrew from the negotiations, threatening that if haircut exceeds 50%, it will take legal measures. The IMF believes that in order the Greek public debt to become viable, it must be cut to 120% of GDP. Cyprus is exposed by €3.5 billion in Greek bonds, which is 20% of its GDP.

“Politis” also reports that the issue of 30-day treasury bills was oversubscribed. The state borrowed €373 million.

The newspaper also highlights that the Construction Material Price Index slipped 0.05% in November.

“Haravgi” also reports that the Finance Ministry will appoint consultants for the assessment of the CSE value and the adoption of the most recent privatization method.

The newspaper “Alithia” highlights that in his statements yesterday, the President of the Republic said that the global markets lack humanity at the same time that Cyprus struggles to avoid the bailout mechanism.
