Press: CTO incentives plan, power, tax evasion

The major issues in today’s financial press are the incentives plan announced by the Cyprus Tourism Organization for the improvement of the tourist product, the demand for power and SEK’s meeting with the President of the Republic, Tassos Papadopoulos in the presence of Finance Minister, Michalis Sarris and Labour Minister, Antonis Vasileiou.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to the incentives plan announced by the CTO for the improvement of the tourist product. According to the report, the plan will be co-financed by the EU structural funds and the CTO, which will give €13 million.

Elsewhere the newspaper reports that CCCI will submit to the Finance Minister today applications of more than 150 businesses for their participation in the fair pricing agreement.

The newspaper “Politis” refers to the demand for power. According to the report, EAC Chairman, Charilaos Stavrakis stated that we are lucky that there was no black-out so far, since the demand for power has hit a record high.

The “Economy” inset of the newspaper reports that CPC is to decide today on the merger of Vasiliko Cements and Cyprus Cement Company.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Simerini” refers to the meeting between SEK and the President of the Republic, Tassos Papadopoulos in the presence of Finance Minister, Michalis Sarris and Labour Minister, Antonis Vasileiou. According to the report, the two parties agreed to introduce a technical committee, which will be able to find solutions on issues such as tax evasion.

The newspaper also highlights that the government requested an extension by the representative of the 11 airlines-members of IACA to reply to their request for deliberations on the cut of airport duties.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Haravgi” refers to the dispute between the government and the airlines on airport duties. According to the report, Commerce Minister, Antonis Michaelides is expected to express his view on the issue today.

“Haravgi” also reports that GSEE Chairman, Yiannis Panagopoulos criticized strongly the Management of National Bank (Cyprus).

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Alithia” refers to the press conference given by GSEE Chairman, Yiannis Panagopoulos. According to the report, Mr. Panagopoulos criticized strongly National Bank (Cyprus) for the dispute with ETYK. National Bank Managing Director, Michalis Kokkinos avoided to comment on the issue.

Elsewhere the newspaper reports that developers react to the drop in lending ceiling.
