Press: Developments for 18% of Laiki

The major issue in today’s financial press is troika’s approval to the Minister of Finance to proceed with negotiation with the European Bank of Restructuring and Development in relation to the management of 18% of Laiki Bank.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to troika’s green light to the Finance Minister to proceed with deliberations with the European Bank of Restructuring and Development in relation to the management of 18% of Laiki Bank. At today’s two-day meeting of EBRD in Warsaw, which will be attended by the Finance Minister, the government expects a political decision for action in Cyprus for funding purposes.

Elsewhere the newspaper reports that the President of the Republic ensured yesterday that the government will pay €4 million to the provident fund of CAIR in order to cover the fees of the dismissed employees.

The “Economy’ inset of newspaper “Politis” reports that the troika turned the green light to the Finance Minister to deliberate with the EBRD in relation to the management of 18% of Laiki Bank. According to the report, the Minister is in Warsaw to attend the general meeting of the EBRD, which will examine Cyprus’s request in order the Bank to support the government’s efforts for the reform and restructuring of the Cyprus economy.

“Politis” also highlights that what is left for the completion of the recapitalization of the CDB Bank is some typical procedures.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper ‘Simerini” refers to the participation of the Finance Minister in the general meeting of the European Bank of Restructuring and Development in Warsaw. Mr. Georgiades will transfer the government’s wish the EBRD to undertake the management of 18% of former Laiki Bank.

The newspaper also reports that SEK’s leadership, at a meeting with the President of the Republic yesterday, discussed the problems of the employees.

Mr. Georgiades has been authorized by the resolutions authority to negotiate the transfer of the management of 18% that Laiki Bank holds in Bank of Cyprus.

Elsewhere the newspaper reports that pensioners protested outside the Presidential Palace yesterday for their difficult economic conditions.
