Major issues of today’s financial press are the new system of evaluation for government employees, the introduction of reassignment and the gradual re payment of the public debt to the Social Security Fund, as well as the criticisms of the opposition over government’s estimates for the economy for 2003.
The Parliamentary Committee of Finance dealt with the aforementioned issues in the context of the discussions over the State Budget of 2003.
The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” under the title “Reasonable estimates for 2003” mentions that the estimates of the Ministry of Finance over the growth of the economy by 4.3% are feasible, as long as developments in Iraq and petrol are positive. Mr. Klerides – on his reply to the criticisms of MPs Markos Kyprianou and Stavros Evagorou over the optimistic estimates of the state budget of 2003 – pointed out that “the re-examination of estimates depends on the developments”. The newspaper also highlights that the Ministry of Finance has not yet been transferred to the new buildings, as road works are still unfinished.
The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Simerini” under the title “Civil Service on the microscope” refers to yesterday’s talks of the Parliamentary Committee of Finance. According to the report, the Committee dealt with the new evaluation system for the government employees which will be implemented in 2003, the gradual re payment of the public debt to the Social Security Fund and the introduction of ‘reassignments’.
