Press: Findings, troika and Cyta

The major issues in today’s financial press are the findings of the three-member inquiry committee on the economic delivered to the secretary of the Council of Ministers on Saturday and the Finance Ministry’s contacts with the troika for the decree that formalizes the nationalization of the Cooperatives.

The newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to the new arrests for the Cyta scandal. According to sources, one of those who are involved in the scandal testified one again yesterday and named all the others who are allegedly involved in the case.

The “Economy” inset of the newspaper refers to the findings of the three-member inquiry committee for the economy, delivered to the secretary of the Council of Ministers on Saturday. According to the report, President Anastasiades will make a first reading of the findings so as to draw certain preliminary conclusions and take decisions for the next steps.

The “Economy” inset of the newspaper refers to the upcoming stress tests that the ECB will make to the largest euro area banks. According to the report, the ECB will undertake direct supervision of the 130 largest banks in the eurozone, including Deutsche Bank, from November 2014 and will make a quality control of their sources.

“Politis” also reports that the Spanish government approved one more austerity budget for 2014.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Simerini” refers to the recent decision of the IMF which reveals new numbers for Bank of Cyprus. The IMF report raises a new issue, which might affect negatively the capital of the old shareholders of Bank of Cyprus by €1.050 million. The new burden will depend on the value that the state bond of €1,800 million of Cyprus Popular Bank was purchased. It currently has nominal value of €1,900 million.

The newspaper also highlights that DISY President, Averof Neophytou announced his party’s intention to take an initiative for a property tax cut.
