Press: Holy salary cut

The major issues in today’s financial press are the Church’s cutbacks due to the financial crisis, the proposal approved by the Council of Ministers for extending the services of the four sages for the natural gas with revenues of €625 a day for each one of them, the appointment of new Board members in Cyprus Airways and the lifting of the banking secrecy of Russian companies in Cyprus.

The daily press focuses on the government’s efforts to avoid a possible collapse of the Chinese investment at the old Larnaca airport, the number of options that Bank of Cyprus is considering to strengthen its capital base and to protect its balance sheet, Cystat’s data on Cypriots’ trips in July and the registration of investments by CIPA in early September.

The newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to the Church’s cutbacks due to the financial crisis, which is expected to affect the employees. The Holy Synod will meet on September 4 to examine a tiered salary cut of staff employed by religious organizations.

The “Economy” inset of the newspaper refers to the appointment of new Board members in Cyprus Airways.
