Press: Looking for bridges on foreclosures

The major issues in today’s financial press are the joint session of the House Finance and Interior Committees on the foreclosures bill and the promotion of the insolvency framework.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to the joint session of the House Finance and Interior Committees, which will focus on the foreclosures bill. According to the report, DISY President, Averof Neophytou develops initiatives and intervenes in order to have amendments and the bill to pass by majority in Parliament.

Elsewhere the newspaper reports that the Ecologists requested radical amendments on the foreclosures bill.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Politis” reports that ECB President, Mario Draghi recommended on Thursday a development-friendly fiscal adjustment, which means lower taxes and emphasis to structural reforms.

“Politis” also refers to the signing of the agreement for the acquisition of 49% of Alitalia by Etihad.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Simerini” refers to the insolvency framework that is being promoted. According to the report, the insolvency framework tries to stop the time-consuming and insufficient existing procedure of compulsory liquidation of companies. With two bills the government will try to reduce liquidations.

The newspaper also reports that what is happening in the past few days with regard to the foreclosures bill reminds of the past.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Alithia” refers to the Central Bank data on non-performing loans. According to the report, of the €27 billion of the NPLs, almost €4 billion are loans concerning home ownership. The troika expects that part of the red loans concern strategic bankruptcies.
