The major issues in today’s financial press are the meeting at the Finance Ministry for the fiscal consolidation measures and the Stability Program and PASYDY’s reaction to the Finance Minister’s letter on the voluntary cut in the salaries of the high-ranking state officials.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to the meeting at the Finance Ministry for the fiscal consolidation measures and the Stability Program. According to the report, the government’s effort to inform the parties on its intentions in the economic policy was carried out with DISY’s and EVROKO’s absence and EDEK’s withdrawal. The Finance Minister expressed his intention for one more effort to bring the parties in a new round of talks.

Elsewhere the newspaper refers to CYSTAT’s data on inflation in March 2010.

The newspaper “Politis” refers to PASYDY’s reaction to the letter sent by the Finance Minister for a voluntary cut in the salaries of the high-ranking state officials. According to the report, PASYDY said that Mr. Stavrakis’ action was unacceptable and warned that if the letter is not withdrawn, it will not enter in deliberations.

The “Economy” inset of the newspaper highlights that the Finance Minister presented the Stability Program to the political parties yesterday. With the adoption of all measures of the SP by 2013, he aims to reduce deficit by €1.18 billion or 2.5% of GDP.

According to the report, the meeting showed that the parties disagree in relation to the President’s actions for the settlement of the Cyprus issue and the measures that were decided for the consolidation of the island’s economy.

“Simerini” also reports that GDP in Cyprus fell 0.3% in the fourth quarter of 2009.
